Big Bear is known for the various animals that live next to the lake as well as dwell in the surrounding forests of big bear. The Black Bear

Big Bear and Big Bear Lake were named after a large population of black bears that surround the lake and live in the park. Black bears will be found grazing next to the lake for it is the largest water supply that they need to survive. Black hairs are much more docile than the grizzly bears. Even though they are much more docile than the grizzly bears they are still very large and their sheer size can be very impressive to someone who might run into one. Even though these animals appear to be very large in size they are also extremely fast and strong. They can weigh anywhere from 200 to 400 pounds and come in all shades of brown and black. In the winter time the bears sleep in a den where they can hibernate from anywhere to five to six months. Bears spend most of their time looking for food as well as water. They are great hunters and roam free at big bear. Just remember that even though these bears are not as aggressive as a mother bears they will still protect their food as well as their young if they feel threatened.

Bobcat

bobcats on normally active at night in the forests of big bear. They occupy over 25 mi.² of habitat in big bear. Bobcats have keen sight and hear very well they can also swim and feed mainly on birds, rabbits, rodents, and other small animals. bobcats are not hostile and if you’re lucky to run into one are some of the most beautiful animals to view in the wild.

California Mountain Lion

California mountain lions roam in the forests of big bear. They are very rare but to exist and are very dangerous. The Lions can live up to 20 years and hunts mainly on deer and other mid sized animals. California mountain lions normally run in groups or packs of five to 10 members. Unless these lines are provoked they normally don’t want anything to do with people. If you happen to run into one at big bear make sure you don’t make any sudden movements that might provoke or scare the lions.

The Gray Fox

when visiting big bear you will be able to see some of the prettiest animals to ever walk the earth. The gray fox used to be an endangered species as people would hunt them for their beautiful coats. These docile animals hunt small prey and their population has grown tremendously in the past five years. The population has grown due to new laws trying to protect the gray fox. While roaming the forest of big bear you will be able to spot the gray foxes by looking in the snow or dirt depending on the time of year and you will be able to see small tracks. Big bear is a wonderful place for gray foxes to live as well as reproduce.

Big Bear is full of beautiful animals as well as a view endangered species. Make sure to enjoy the animals when you’re there just on harm them or do any harm to the habitat that they live in. At night if you close your eyes you will be able to hear some of the most amazing sounds of wildlife while staying at a Big Bear cabin.
